Simply Divine

I have a thing for white houses.  Our first house was white our second house was white, our beach cottage is white and our current house, which will be the house we stay in forever, will also eventually be white.  I don't ever stray to another colour and even when clients ask me what colour they should paint their house I always reply white.  The fact is that white houses never date.  I especially love white houses when they are surrounded by lots of gardens or big green luscious trees and lots of green neatly trimmed grass.  There is nothing prettier in my opinion.  I was completely awestruck when I spotted this beautiful old white house over at Coco + Kelley blog earlier this week.  How simply divine!!

I agree, white is timeless.

What paint shade of white do you recommend?

I do love a white house, but I also love a bit of black. Especially around the windows they can give a bit of punch. Maybe being in sunny Qld the pure white house will always look appropriate, whereas in Melbourne, the dark greys and blacks look chic and the white a bit bland and washed out?

Love white houses too. Live in a white home too.
Love greenery too or piles of white snow!

Anna, am about to paint my weatherboard house a pale grey instead of the white I was thinking about because it isn't architectually that amazing or interesting and thought it might look a bit average in white. Would love to know your thoughts?
Thanks Kate

I am that way about Yellow houses. Of the 3 houses I've owned in my adult life, I've painted 2 of them yellow. One ( the only newly built one) was Peach. It was a builder option. Choices were beige, gray, or peach. I was the ONLY peach one in the neighborhood. We only lived there 2 years. To me, yellow houses are happy, classy, and cant possibly take itself too seriously.

I just discovered this blog, and I'm so glad I did! What a collection of, well, absolutely beautiful things. So much beauty and color -- this is my new home inspiration!

I agree...white houses are always great in any season, but especially in the summer with green grass, gardens filled with color. This one is especially beautiful!

But that second picture stopped me flat in my tracks..holy moly!! What a spectacular setting that is set in the middle of that fabulously green lush lawn...swoon!
A picture worth saving.

We painted our weatherboard house white last year and I am so pleased with how it looks. Our previous house was a dark grey with white window frames which I really like but it is all too common now. We painted the base boards and the picket fence a dark grey to help anchor the white house. I am now looking forward to the garden growing and adding some lush greenery to the soften the look.

I love white houses too- we don't have them too much in the UK though! They always seem very American or Australian to me. I would love to live in one though!
