White Background

So, here I am in white - just to show you. What do you think? Personally I think it looks terrible (on my site) and I don't think it shows off the pictures as well as the black. My site is dominated by images and not text so I think I need to select a background which makes the images stand out. I just don't think the white background is me but tell me what you think...

P.S. This is just me changing the colours - my new customised design is well on it's way and I have pretty much chosen what I will be having. I am just doing this exercise to get your feedback as I am very interested to hear everyone's opinion. I love to workshop ideas with my girls at Black & Spiro so this is what I am doing: workshopping with you!!

maybe a nice pale blue or grey...

yes, the white really is bland and doesn't show off the pictures well. I always like black, but maybe a deep, dark magenta, purple or green would work well too?

I agree that a black background most certainly does make the images pop!

Your shop is called Black & Spiro so black sort of fits in. The only trouble I have with a black background is that the white type out of black is difficult to read.

I would agree with you the white is too stark. I love your site. Thank you for your inspirations.

I agree that the white is more boring, but I can read the site so easily now! :) I still think a cream, very light rose, or pale blue/gray would set off your pictures better and still be eye-friendly! :)

That said, I'll keep enjoying your blog no matter what you decide!

I thought the black background was a bit depressing, to be honest. The white one could be a perfect choice, as long as you keep the heading and pictures colourful! Pale shades of blue, lilac and pink could be other alternatives...

Love your blog by the way - it's always fantastically inspiring.

I like black, but navy is good too. :)

I agree, I don't like the white. Can't wait to see the new design.

I don't care for the white background. When I scrapbook I always use a black page or a sort of taupe color as it makes the pictures really pop. Love your blog!

I'm not a fan of the white either (there seems to be a club). Have you considered changing your headline typeface to Georgia (not bolded though, many web typefaces distort badly when bolded, rather have them larger). I know it's used in a lot of other blogs, but I find it a very elegant typeface for headlines-clunky though when used for the body copy. Also try decreasing the size of your body copy. That way you'll have better tension (which is good) between headline, body copy and image. I quite like the way Trebuchet looks when it's 11px. Geneva is also a lovely typeface at that size.

Excuse my rambling, I love your blog! Would travel to Australia just to see your shop, but it seems that half of the South African population has emmigrated there already (I'm South African, by the way)... Anyway, thanks for the awesome inspiration!
All the best

Yes, I like the black better!

why not compromise and go with a nice medium grey?

Another vote for black - the black is much more fun/special - the pictures pop more.

We are not fans of the white. WE at Serhorn.blogspot use the pink on black, just like you because it showcases images nicely. If you want a lighter background, try maybe a beige with some nice tight pinstripes (up and down). This just feels alittle too much like a blank slate...We love you regardless though!

I don't think the white background works as well as the black did. The photos really stood out on the black background. They kind of disappear on the white.

I still love the black! Does this mean your website will be up and running soon too? Can't wait.

no white. The black showcases the images much better. Looking forward to what you unveil!

I am blinking like a baby in the morning sun. Not great. I like the black, it's so unusual in blogland and really strikes a chord in visual memory for sites and recognition of screen design.
Loving the tudor houses!!xx
